Our program focuses on obtaining the correct diagnosis so that we may customize a treatment plan for each individual. View a video highlighting on our joint replacement program.

Educational seminars and classes offered throughout the year will provide you with the necessary information so that you can take an active role in your recovery process.

Should the need for surgery arise, rest assured that your care is in the hands of highly trained specialists. Our multidisciplinary team—including specially trained surgeons, clinical orthopedic nurses, physical therapists, pharmacologists, anesthesiologists and nutritionists—will provide a holistic approach to managing your care, starting with your first preoperative visit and continuing throughout your hospital stay.

Our clinical coordinator for orthopedics manages all aspects of your postoperative and rehabilitation process by providing up-to-date information regarding your progress to your doctor and nursing staff throughout your stay. The orthopedic coordinator plays a crucial role in your rehabilitation beginning with preoperative educational classes to postoperative care and ending with your detailed home instructions on your day of discharge from the hospital. This provides you with unparalleled continuity of care throughout your entire experience with ValleyCare's Joint Replacement Institute.

Stanford Health Care - ValleyCare has earned the Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval for its joint replacement programs for hips and knees.

Dr. Salyapongse

Aaron Salyapongse, MD

Medical Director

Dr. Salyapongse graduated from Northwestern University with a bachelor of arts degree. He obtained his medical degree from the St. Louis University School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at St. Mary's Medical Center in San Francisco. He then traveled to Boston and served as an Otto E. Aufranc Total Joint Fellow at the New England Baptist Hospital, where he was extensively trained in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the hip, knee and shoulder. He studied tissue-preserving hip replacement, computer-assisted surgery, total hip resurfacing and complex hip and knee reconstructions.

His practice is focused on the treatment of general orthopedic problems with a special interest in hip and knee replacement. He utilizes minimally invasive techniques (including the anterior approach, the superior capsulotomy and quadriceps-sparing approaches) that provide the potential for shorter recovery times, accelerated rehabilitation and durable, long-lasting joint replacements. He also specializes in the diagnosis of problems and treatment of patients who have already had their joints replaced.

During his fellowship, Dr. Salyapongse performed more than 600 total hip and knee replacements. He has extensive experience with the various techniques and implants that have been specifically designed for patients of all ages and every activity level. He is well-versed in the use of alternative bearing surfaces (e.g., metal-on-metal, ceramic and highly cross-linked polyethylene; large femoral head diameters; and total hip resurfacing).

Orthopedic Nurses

ValleyCare is committed to providing outstanding nursing care. Our Joint Replacement Institute is proud to offer specially trained orthopedic-certified nurses. Specifically trained in the care and rehabilitation of the orthopedic patient, these highly skilled nurses are an extraordinary addition to our nursing staff and joint replacement team.

Clinical Pharmacy Services

The ValleyCare Pharmacy Department clinical pharmacist will provide a thorough review of your medications to ensure the safest and most effective therapy during your rehabilitation. In addition to the pharmacist's review, the pharmacy department is equipped with state-of-the-art computer technology that allows for a comprehensive evaluation of your medications in order to screen for potential interactions.

A comfortable and safe recovery is our primary goal. By using a combination of nonaddictive medications and a limited use of pain pills, we are proud to offer customized medication regimens that provide maximum pain control with minimal amounts of side effects.
